| Savage rarely titles works on paper. However, the artist titled this piece Homage to Matisse.
"This painting reminds me of Matisse's painting from 1911, The Red Studio. It has the same color qualities. The volume of red flattens the space. I think [The Red Studio] was the beginning of what became abstract painting" commented Savage.
In 2004, a group of art experts voted The Red Studio as one of the most influential modern artworks of all time. The Red Studio is also known as Issy-les-Moulineaux and is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
